Rewilding with Vincent Munier

March 12, 2026

With his recent film ‘Whispers in the Woods’ Vincent Munier supports associations who are committed to rewilding our European forests. Such as ASPAS (Association for the Protection of Wild Animals), an organisation that signed the “Appeal for Living Forests,” a call opposing government policies that treat forests primarily as resources for exploitation. According to Vincent Munier, “many forests are little more than fields of trees; there is no life, no animals living there. We try to bring the animals and life back. As Nick Cave sang in my previous film ‘The Velvet Queen’ the song: “We’re not alone”, I want people to realize that we are not alone. We inhabit the world with all living beings and are all interdependent. The more diversity there is, the less vulnerable you are to a virus, a storm, a flood. Everything is connected, and no animal species is more important than another. Even dead trees play a role. It would be wonderful if people understood that.” (Quote from his interview with VPRO)

Going beyond the artistic sphere, Munier’s work resonates strongly with the vision of FLAT // LAND: to foster compassion and contribute to the conservation and welfare of both wild and domesticated species through art.

ASPAS strives for the recognition of the forest as a living ecosystem, not just an agricultural resource. It focuses on protecting complex, natural ecosystems rather than replacing them with uniform, easily harvested tree plantations.
