Munier donates to nature with rewilding

March 11, 2026

In ‘Whispers in the Woods’, French filmmaker and photographer Vincent Munier shares his experiences, hopes and fears for the natural world, not only to the grand public but especially with the next generation. It stands as a testimony to humility an making ourselves subordinate to the other species with whom we share the Earth.

Awarded two César Awards (Best Documentary and Best Sound), the significance of the film extends far beyond the worlds of cinema and art.

A portion of the film’s proceeds is donated by Munier to ASPAS (Association for the Protection of Wild Animals), an organisation that signed the “Appeal for Living Forests,” a call opposing government policies that treat forests primarily as resources for exploitation. According to Vincent Munier, “many forests are little more than fields of trees; there is no life, no animals living there. We try to bring the animals and life back.” ASPAS therefore focuses on protecting complex, natural ecosystems rather than replacing them with uniform, easily harvested tree plantations.

Going beyond the artistic sphere, Munier’s work resonates strongly with the vision of FLAT // LAND: to foster compassion, share scientific knowledge and new artistic paradigms, and contribute to the conservation and welfare of both wild and domesticated species.

Munier: As Nick Cave sang in my previous film ‘The Velvet Queen’ the song: “We’re not alone”, I want people to realize that we are not alone. We inhabit the world with all living beings and are all interdependent. The more diversity there is, the less vulnerable you are to a virus, a storm, a flood. Everything is connected, and no animal species is more important than another. Even dead trees play a role. It would be wonderful if people understood that.”

ASPAS strives for the recognition of the forest as a living ecosystem, not just an agricultural resource.
